Players head to Canada for tournament

Las Vegas Valley residents Matt Edwards, Brady Exber, Craig Junio and Richard McIntosh participated in the 42nd Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in early August at Royal Colwood Golf Club in Victoria, British Columbia.

Edwards, Junio and McIntosh played for the Southern Nevada Golf Association team while Exber participated on a Presidential Exemption granted to him by the event.

McIntosh shot solid rounds of 70-69-69-69 to finish at 3-under-par 277 for 12th place in a field loaded with the top amateurs in the western United States and Canada.

Edwards, a Coronado product who played collegiately at New Mexico State, finished tied for 24th at 2-over-par 282. Exber, the Nevada State Amateur Champion, finished tied for 36th at 6-over-par 286. Junio finished tied for 76th at 25-over-par.

The event was won by Jordan Irwin of Calgary, British Columbia who finished with a total of 9-under-par 271.

In the Morse Cup Competition, the team portion of the event, the Southern Nevada Golf Association finished a respectable sixth in the 16-team field.

The cup consisted of the first two days of competition with the best two of three scores from each team counting towards the team total.

UNLV’s Krishna wins in Australia

UNLV’s Natasha Krishna captured the South Australian Stroke Play Championship at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia.

Krishna shot rounds of 77-70-75-72 to finish at 2-under-par 294 on the par 74 layout. A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Krishna became the first player from New Zealand to win the event.

The win will put Krishna in a favorable position to secure a spot on the New Zealand team at the World Amateur Team Championship in October.

Krishna is a two-time All-Mountain West Conference performer for the Rebels.
