A neighborhood near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Eastern Avenue is home to Freshly Brewed Court, Rich Flavor and French Roast places, and Double Shot Lane.
Vegas Vic reckons the brainstorming session behind those monikers didn’t last much past the morning cup of joe. (Mine? Black, no fancy flavors.)
Maria Bittner, the city employee who reviews proposed street names, tells Vegas Vic developers name streets in neighborhoods they build. If no other street has a certain name, and it’s a word Americans can pronounce when they call 911, it’s probably going to be OK.
In this case, it was an Astoria Homes suit who woke up and smelled a deadline for dreaming up new street names breathing down her neck. Sia Howe, the builder’s vice president of marketing, said the idea came to her in early 2004, when “Starbucks was really big.” She broke out a thesaurus and a “word association” book and the coffee neighborhood was born.
Howe claims it’s tougher than you might guess coming up with new street names. It seems the good names have been taken.
