Police to increase DUI enforcement this weekend

Metro Police, along with other law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada, will conduct several enforcement projects focusing on impaired drivers this weekend.

Although the area patrolled by Metro has recorded a 30 percent drop in DUI-related crashes and a 61 percent decrease in DUI-related fatal accidents, police are joining forces from Aug. 15 through Monday to enforce the law.

-- From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday, police will patrol the Las Vegas Strip corridor.

-- A DUI sobriety checkpoint will watch for impaired drivers from 7 p.m. until 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday along Flamingo Road in the southwest area of the valley.

-- From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday and Monday, officers will saturate Boulder Highway under the Southeast Area Command.
