Center’s seminars cover variety of topics

A Senior Center is many things to many people. I believe that one of the primary responsibilities of a Senior Center is to educate its members.

We are always looking for topics or individuals that would have pertinent information for our audience. In the past we have held seminars on life insurance, annuities and funeral planning, to name a few. The Senior Center has held health fairs that educate individuals on various conditions, including pain management, diabetes and high blood pressure.

We hold these functions for a few reasons: to increase our exposure in the community and to fill an educational need. Some may question why we want more exposure, but the answer is quite simple. The Senior Center has services of which many people are unaware, and we cannot help individuals if they do not know we are here to help. While Boulder City is a tight-knit community, there are still some gaps in awareness of what is available right here. The Senior Center is trying to fill these gaps.

In the coming months, we will hold an increasing number of educational seminars. They will all be very informal, and everyone is welcome to attend.

We will be hosting financial seminars on what FDIC insurance means to your money, investing for women and asset allocation. In addition, we will have several more health-related seminars, including topics about eye health, fall prevention, neurological issues such as strokes and dementia, and kidney health.

We want to bring topics to the Senior Center and to Boulder City that will benefit and inform. While we are trying to choose topics for the center, I would encourage you to tell us what is of interest to you. Come by and speak with me or leave a note in the suggestion box. We want to offer what you want!

Suggestion box

We received the many suggestions regarding a salad bar, and we will be bringing it back by Oct. 1.

Commodities delivery

Unfortunately, because of high gasoline prices, the Senior Center will no longer be able to deliver commodities to your home. If we had previously delivered to you in the past, please contact the Center to make pick-up arrangements.

Upcoming seminars
