Injured motorcyclist dies two months after crash

A 31-year-old man who crashed his motorcycle on June 22 died Wednesday at a local hospital, North Las Vegas Police said.

The man was riding a red 2002 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Deer Springs Way near Aviary Avenue, police said. Investigating officers learned that the motorcycle was speeding as it entered a curve about 9:20 p.m.

The man was wearing a helmet, but lost control of his motorcycle, striking the south curb. He was thrown from his motorcycle and hit his head on a power pedestal next to the road, police said.

He was taken to University Medical Center with severe head injuries, police said.

The Clark County coroner's office has not identified the man.

The North Las Vegas Police Department major crash investigation unit determined that excessive speed and being under the influence of alcohol were major contributing factors in the crash, police said.

The police are asking that anyone who has information about this crash call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555. Cash rewards, up to $2,000 are offered to anonymous people who telephone the hotline with information that leads to the arrest or indictment of anyone responsible for felony offenses.
