Letter to the editor:

Nothing wrong with religious references

Regarding Peter S. Canellos’ Monday column, “ ‘Judeo-Christian’ references may alienate much of the world”:

Why is referring to the United States’ Judeo-Christian values and background considered inflammatory to others, but Muslim references to Muhammad and his teachings are never supposed to be inflammatory to non-Muslims?

Facts are facts. Treating them as such should never be inflammatory to anyone. The suppression of facts in the hope that you will not offend someone who has no reason to be offended is to give that person or group the right to control your thoughts and actions and the expectation that you will continue to accede to them in the future.

Political correctness is a grave and imminent threat to the future peace of the world because it causes us to talk around the subject instead of about the subject.
