Glad to hear UNLV doing well

Kevin Kruger talks with his father, UNLV coach Lon Kruger, every day and is not surprised that the Rebels are 17-4.

That matches the team’s record through 21 games last season, when it lost in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

The younger Kruger, a guard for the Utah Flash in the NBA Development League, said he has faith in the Rebels and that last season was just the beginning.

“They’ll be back in the tournament,” he said. “People in Las Vegas will be proud in about 10 years when they’ve gone to 10 straight NCAA tournaments, and Sweet 16s and Final Fours.”

Wendell White, a swingman for the Los Angels D-Fenders of the D-League and a UNLV teammate of Kruger’s last season, was surprised by how the Rebels are faring this season.

“Yeah? Whoa, damn,” he said. “They’re leading the league? That’s great.”

Kruger fell short of predicting another Sweet 16 run for UNLV this season.

“That’s tough,” he said. “A lot of things have to go right. They have to bring their best on game day, but they can definitely do it. The NCAA tournament is a very real goal.”
