Letter to the editor:

Obama’s diplomatic skills questionable

I was surprised by the actions of Sen. Barack Obama at President Bush’s State of the Union address.

Before the president’s entrance, everyone was greeting each other, and Sen. Hillary Clinton shook Sen. Edward Kennedy’s hand, even though he had endorsed Obama. Now, Obama was at arm’s length, but did not offer to shake Clinton’s hand even though she was in proximity.

The message I get from this rebuff: Will he do this as the president of the United States to the leaders of other nations? He said at a debate he would meet with all leaders in the world.

If he cannot simply shake an adversary’s hand at home, how can we take him at his word that he will meet with leaders and improve our image in the world?
