Gibbons doing what must be done for state

Why have there been so many editorials in the Las Vegas Sun about the problems with our state budget, and so many criticisms pointed at our governor, that never mention that the majority of states are having the same problem? This is not a Nevada problem caused by our governor, nor even by past governors. It is simply that tax revenue is shrinking because of our economic slowdown.

A Sun editorial Thursday, “Budget priorities,” criticized Gov. Jim Gibbons for a lack of leadership. Whether you like him or not, he is doing what makes sense for the immediate problems. The governor of California, facing a $10 billion budget deficit, is asking for a 10 percent spending cut in all state agencies and deep cuts in education. New York is facing a $4.4 billion deficit, and on and on. Whether you like our governor or not, and it is obvious by all your coverage you do not, he is doing what has to be done.
