Letter to the editor:

Our nation practices warped democracy

We have the politicians, especially those who run for the White House, telling us that they are running because they care about the country’s well-being. And my questions to them and to those who believe them are:

If you care about the country, why are you putting your party’s interests first? Is it because you care about the country or because you care about your party’s prominence and, consequently, your own personal gains?

And, since you and your party care about the welfare of the country, could you please tell me how democracy is served by the pseudo-democratic institutions of caucuses, delegates, superdelegates and party conventions? What has happened to the simple, inexpensive and straightforward popular vote?

Is this the kind of democracy our country is trying to export to undeveloped countries? Are we living in a true democracy or in a self-serving capitalistic jungle run by the country’s special-interest sharks?

It seems to me that the bottom line is not democracy but partisan, self-serving interests! And as for the everyday Joe, who cares?
