Letter to the editor:
U.S. a republic, not a democracy

I have a news flash for Nikolas D. Skalkotos regarding his Tuesday letter, headlined “Our nation practices warped democracy”:
The United States is not a democracy; we are a representative republic. As is stated in the U.S. Constitution, Article IV, Section 4:
“The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the Legislature, or of the executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.”
Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution is the word “democracy.”
