Pledge is about loyalty, freedoms

Thanks to Teresa Harris for her Wednesday letter “Pledge wasn’t meant to be about religion.” It’s amazing how things can get screwed up when Congress gets involved.

Thomas Jefferson was right when he insisted that this country’s citizens shall have freedom of, as well as freedom from, religion.

Ms. Harris’ note on the “intent” of our Pledge of Allegiance was as simply put as the original writing was. It is an expression of loyalty to the country that assures each citizen that freedom.
