Letter to the editor:

Those poor, poor Bush nominees

In Sunday’s paper, President Bush expressed his frustration over the failure of the Senate to vote on more than 180 of his nominations, including more than two dozen to the federal bench.

He was quoted in an Associated Press article as saying, “Some have been waiting for more than a year, and as a result, careers have been put on hold, families have been placed in limbo and our government has been deprived of the service of these fine nominees.”

The same article reported that many of the nominees were invited to the White House for an event last week (which surely included a dinner).

Shouldn’t President Bush show this same concern for the thousands of young men and women serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan? Haven’t they been waiting for years to come home?

They have put their lives on hold, their families have been placed in limbo and our nation is deprived of their services protecting our boundaries.

Thousand of families have been devastated by the deaths of almost 4,000 and injuries to thousands more.

And you can bet that they will never get a dinner at the White House.
