FLASHPOINT:

The Henderson cops …

The Henderson cops have not done themselves any favors with their shroud of secrecy after a 23-year-old officer shot that ice cream lady. They say she had a knife, but others didn’t see it — and now her family says there was no knife. And check out the first sentence of the news release the city sent out on the Tuesday incident: “A patrol officer was forced to shoot a 42-year-old woman that was yielding a knife ...” Now that inspires confidence. Forget that a woman is a “who” and not a “that.” That’s just a run-of-the-mill grammatical crime. But yielding a knife? If she was yielding the knife, why shoot her? Could they have meant “wielding” a knife? Not a good mistake to make. But perhaps not the worst one made in this case.
