Letter to the editor:

Better use of space should be a priority

Regarding a story in Sunday’s Las Vegas Sun headlined “Courtroom: Break for lunch, see ya tomorrow”:

It was a great article on the use, or lack thereof, of our very expensive courtrooms in the Regional Justice Center.

Where is the oversight that should be making sure the courtrooms are used to capacity rather than spending millions more on additional space? Also, it looks like some time clocks might be in order.

Parents should be held accountable

Another week has passed with still more guns found on our school campuses. Loaded guns were confiscated last week from students at Desert Pines High School and at Arbor View High School. Fortunately, those guns were confiscated before they could be used. Meanwhile, there was a fatal shooting of a student near Palo Verde High School, and the alleged shooter arrested in that case is a student at Palo Verde.

We are told that the students caught with guns on campus face disciplinary actions, including possible expulsion, but why do we never hear that the parents of these students have been charged with child endangerment or child neglect? Such action should be pursued anytime a child is caught with a gun in an unsupervised setting. Parents are legally responsible for the actions of their children and must be made to take action to control these outrageous incidents.
