Letter to the editor:

Why drug testing of teens is critical

In response to Jeff Silverman’s Sunday letter, headlined “Teenagers unfairly targeted for testing”:

Testing for illegal substances has never been about a presumption of guilt; its purpose is as a deterrent first, and a means to determine guilt or innocence second.

Unlike racism and hatred, substance abuse among our youths is overwhelmingly “learned” through peer pressure and friends usually at school.

I agree that the adults involved need to step up and be just as accountable. This is about the deterioration of values, respect and the moral fiber of our youths and at least it’s a proactive measure, instead of just saying something’s wrong without proposing any solution.
