flashpoint:

A special session to further political ends

If you don’t think a special session can be used to further political ends, consider these two examples. First, congressional hopeful Dina Titus made what Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio aptly called a “campaign speech” to set up Republicans Joe Heck and Bob Beers on a gas tax holiday and a tax break for gamers. And then Monday, Assembly candidate Jon Ozark, running in a primary against Assemblyman Bob Beers, put out a news release attacking the incumbent for (inexplicably) abstaining on one bill. The funniest part of the release: He calls the incumbent “Robert Beers,” clearly understanding that confusion over which Beers it was helped the assemblyman become an assemblyman. I bet he’ll be called “Robert” a lot.
