Letter to the editor:

We need leaders who think on their own

My thanks and appreciation to Brian Greenspun for yielding the floor Sunday, in his “Where I Stand” column, to his friend Don Gilberg. A fine piece of work by Mr. Gilberg. My views are more in line with those of Mr. Gilberg than the more liberal views of Mr. Greenspun. That said, Mr. Greenspun showed a real touch of class and bipartisanship in printing Mr. Gilberg’s words.

I certainly agree with Mr. Gilberg that our leadership (loose term) in Washington is mainly the problem and certainly not the solution to what ails America, and that the city has indeed run amok with power-hungry politicians, not to mention the thousands of lobbyists who daily bang on the ears of these politicians.

None of us in America, except maybe the current crop of politicians, should disagree with Mr. Gilberg’s statement that “we need to find big-thinking men and women who truly are beholden to no special interests.” The question is: Where are they to be found?
