Impressions of Pahrump not far off

In response to William Lockwood’s June 26 letter headlined “Pahrump’s bad reputation not deserved”:

Pahrump’s bad reputation is more about being pretentious than about the reputation of Pahrump. Although Mr. Lockwood’s house is paid for and he has his BMW in the driveway, I believe the unsavory situation will remain (in Pahrump) for quite some time.

He cites some nice places in town — I will give him that — but the general feeling is that Pahrump is still an old hayseed and getting something done here is like pulling teeth.

Mr. Lockwood says he doesn’t understand why this feeling or reputation exists. I will explain: We need at least four or five more stoplights, roads are in terrible condition, we have no zoning, which leads to nice houses like his but also to overgrown shacks with several old rusted cars and trucks sitting where they quit running.

No, we don’t have the crime Las Vegas has, but don’t believe we are free from crime.
