flashpoint:

The governor and the county official

So would the governor really pressure a respected rural county official to save a few thousand bucks on his property taxes? That’s the clear implication from an Associated Press report by veteran Sandra Chereb, a former Sun scribe, who exposed the scandal last week. As one insider put it after reading about how Jim Gibbons hired an attorney who happens to be a tax commissioner to argue the case to Elko County Assessor Joe Aguirre: “What was he thinking?” That question no longer seems operative when it comes to Gibbons. But we are going to try to find out a little more information from Aguirre today, when he is scheduled to appear on “Face to Face.” We invited Gibbons to come on the program, too. We do that a lot. Invite him, that is.
