WASHINGTON -- Nevada’s three House members voted late this afternoon for a housing relief package that includes the Bush administration’s plan to shore up mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, helping to pass the legislation despite opposition from Republican leaders and some fiscal conservatives.

As Nevada suffers with high foreclosure rates, Republican Reps. Jon Porter and Dean Heller were among 45 Republicans to join Democrats in passing the bill, 272-152.

Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley also voted yes.

The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to be on the floor later this week.
