Scooter crash victim identified

The 51-year-old Las Vegas man who crashed his scooter into a light pole in the northwest valley Tuesday has been identified as Jerry A. Ziolecki, the Clark County coroner's office said.

The cause of death is still pending, the coroner's office said.

Metro Police said the 2005 Roketa 49cc scooter was going north on North Jones Boulevard near West Bromley Avenue in the right paved shoulder. Witnesses told police that the scooter passed slower traffic.

Then the scooter struck the east curb of Jones and slid into a light pole, police said.

The rider was taken to University Medical Center trauma unit with critical injuries and died shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said. Investigators have not revealed whether Ziolecki was wearing a helmet.

Metro's traffic division is still investigating the crash. This is the 67th traffic-related death investigated by Metro Police this year.
