Fire destroys downtown auto shop

A downtown Las Vegas auto shop with two cars inside caught fire this morning, completely destroying the building, according to Las Vegas Fire Dept. spokesman Tim Szymanski.

Firefighters were called about about 5:14 a.m. today to El Toro Auto Repair, 716 Stewart Ave. The one-story, tin-covered shop, between Seventh and Eighth streets, had fuels and chemicals typical of auto repair shops and that helped fuel the fire, Szymanski said.

The damages are estimated at $200,000, but fire investigators have not determined a cause, Szymanski said.

There were no injuries and no other buildings in the area were threatened by the blaze, he said.
