Nevada Army Guard Black Hawk down; no injuries

A Nevada Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter's rotor struck a tree on a training mission and officials must inspect the craft to determine if it can fly out of a remote area on the east shore of Lake Tahoe.

Four soldiers were aboard the aircraft, but none of them were injured, said Sgt. 1st Class Erick Studenicka.

The helicopter landed safely near Hobart Reservoir, which is near Lake Tahoe State Park. The park is located five miles west of Washoe Valley, which lies between Reno and Carson City.

If the Black Hawk cannot be flown out of the area, it will likely be sling-loaded out of the area after an investigation is concluded, Studenicka said. If the aircraft is damaged, it will be taken to the Nevada Army National Guard aviation facility in Reno for repairs.
