One man dead after home invasion

Metro Police say they are searching for three men in their 20s who swooped into a home near Decatur Boulevard and West Robindale Avenue where they robbed the residents and killed one man.

Metro Police received a 911 call about 10:10 p.m. Thursday from a woman who said that a man had been shot inside their home in the 4900 block of West Moberly Avenue, according to Lt. Lew Roberts. Detectives did not leave the house until about 4:30 a.m. today.

When officers arrived at the two-story house, they said they found a 31-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The trio were all dressed in black clothing, except for one who wore a checkered "LA" baseball cap. One was armed with a shotgun and another with a knife, Roberts said.

Once inside the house, they demanded drugs and money. Witnesses said the men believed that drugs were being sold at the house.

After the men received an undetermined amount of money, one of them shot the victim in the head, then all three men fled. No vehicle was seen, Roberts said. The name of the shooting victim will not been released until he is positively identified and his next of kin notified, Roberts said.

A pregnant woman inside the home at the time of the robbery and shooting drove herself to a local hospital. Police do not know her relationship to the victim.

Anyone with information about the three men or this event is urged to contact either Metro's homicide section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
