Woman killed when pickup rolls over her

A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman was killed Saturday night after holding onto a moving pickup truck and falling underneath one of its rear wheels, Metro Police said this morning.

The identity of the woman is being withheld pending notification of her family, police said.

Police said the accident, which is still under investigation, occurred at 9:50 p.m. Saturday at East Blanton Drive and South Nellis Boulevard, which is just north of East Tropicana Avenue in eastern Las Vegas.

According to the reporting police detectives, a 2006 Dodge pickup truck driven by Bryan Vanblericom, 26, Las Vegas, was stopped on Blanton, facing west. When the pickup began pulling away from a residence, the woman grabbed onto the passenger side, detectives said.

The woman then held on to the truck for a short distance before falling off and going under the right rear tire of the truck, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, officers said.

The fatality is the 70th traffic-related death this year in Metro Police's jurisdiction.
