Letter to the editor:

Furniture stores made their bed …

We read the article in Monday’s Las Vegas Sun on struggling or shuttered merchants — particularly furniture stores — with interest. We started looking for a good-quality “mission style” bedroom set here in Las Vegas about a month ago.

We were told again and again that style is no longer available “although it was a good seller.” We finally found what we wanted at a furniture store, only to be told four days later the set’s footboard was not available.

A search of other stores in the nationwide chain took two weeks because they are all individually owned, and the search did not turn up the piece we needed, so we canceled the purchase.

Throughout our search at other stores we found uninterested salespeople who all had similar styles of furniture to show us. At one store we waited for 15 minutes and no one came to help us.

In a city with the World Market Center dominating the downtown skyline, it is incredible that we couldn’t find what we wanted and had the money set aside to buy. Perhaps if the merchants looked at what people want, instead of what is trendy now, they would be more successful. Meanwhile, we’ll look on Craigslist.
