Letter to the editor:

Pundits, don’t shoot messenger McClellan

In Monday’s Las Vegas Sun, the words “Ultimate betrayal” were in a bold headline over Dan K. Thomasson’s column. Mr. Thomasson shared his views regarding the book recently written by former White House press secretary Scott McClellan.

According to Thomasson, McClellan is guilty of betraying his old boss, George Bush, a man he was unbelievably loyal to for years and years, going back to their days in Texas. Thomasson is not saying Bush is not guilty of the acts described in McClellan’s book, but that the man should have just quit his job when he discovered that he had been lied to and the administration’s projects were going awry.

What Thomasson is doing is killing the messenger who brings unpleasant tidings. But then, I am taking the same license and I’m taking a shot at Thomasson, who is now the messenger, and I am ignoring his message.

It is remarkable that there are fewer and fewer supporters of George Bush as his second term ebbs. And there seems to be more and more information being revealed to convince the nonsupporters that they were on the right track all along.

More and more, the people of our nation can realize they can use the fiery headline put on Thomasson’s column, “Ultimate betrayal,” to describe not the White House press secretary, but the White House itself.
