Letter to the editor:

Worst president in the modern era

Regarding Eileen Schenck’s Saturday letter, headlined “Constant criticism of Bush is unfair”:

How anyone at this point and time can still believe that George Bush has even remotely done a good job is beyond me. This is the worst and most unpopular president in the modern era. At last check his popularity numbers were hovering around 29 percent. That means fewer than three out of every 10 Americans support the president. Doesn’t that tell you something?

Here are some shining examples:

War in Iraq costs are now in the billions, teetering on a trillion dollars, and for what? We have accomplished almost nothing. We are hated by Iraq and most Arab countries now more than ever — not to mention the 4,000-plus casualties.

Bush is an oil man and this has to do with oil — plain and simple. Which brings me to my next point — gas prices. Why isn’t he doing anything? What happened to those “oil reserves” of ours? He always said if things got really bad, like $4-a-gallon gas, he would think about tapping the nation’s oil reserves.

Well, I would say things have gotten really bad. If he really wanted to do something he would have by now, but all his cronies/good ol’ boys in the oil business are making record profits. A good president would not stand for this — he would fight for America instead of sending our future down the river.

Hurricane Katrina. Enough said.

Scott McClellan wanted to clear his conscience and I applaud him for it. So anyone who still supports Bush, just remember this: As of this writing, there are only 230 days to go until Jan. 20, 2009.
