Creepy as Marilyn Manson is, the pale, lanky star is also a known lover of the nefarious and oh-so-delicious green (or, as I discovered in Hungary, red, blue, clear or black!) spirit absinthe. Taking advantage of his notoriety and his love of the fée verte last year, Manson partnered with Markus Lion of Absinthe.de and award-winning Swiss specialty distillery Matter-Luginbühl AG to create his own absinthe, or rather, Mansinthe. Recently approved for import and sale in the United States, absinthe was added as a new category in the 2008 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, where 25 judges—including Kevin M. Vogt, M.S., wine and spirits director for Emeril’s Restaurants—tasted 10 absinthe entries. Believe it or not, Mansinthe came out on top with a gold medal. Rock on, Mr. Manson.
