I cannot help but chuckle at the outrage in some quarters over the potential cost of a special session — maybe as much as $300,000, depending on how long it goes. Spare me. At what point would it be cost-effective? And if people are so concerned about the cost of addressing a billion-dollar deficit looming for next biennium and patching together the last part of this one, they could finish in one day and save money. I love the teachers union, whose members stand to see their raises deferred, for this release: “Calling a special session is a waste of our state’s money — money that could be used to help the ailing economy.” I bet all that dues money the teachers spent on a failed gaming tax initiative could be in their pockets instead, eh?
