Letter to the Editor:

Bush owes disabled veterans an apology

I saw an Associated Press photo this week that brought me to tears, then anger. It showed a former soldier, looking despondent, in a San Antonio apartment that a social worker had found for him. He had been rescued from a homeless shelter, where he had gone after waiting in vain for his disability payments.

President Bush should go to San Antonio and apologize to this veteran, and to all the rest of our brave veterans whose plight he finds so easy to ignore. Where is Bush’s shame? Where is his patriotism?

His disregard for our valiant warriors is deplorable! He and his greedy cohorts have dragged our proud country through the foulest of mud. We have incompetents in undeserved leadership roles and, sadly, we can see and feel the resulting chaos.

President Bush found it fairly easy to mislead our nation into a devastating war, and astoundingly just as easy to turn his back on the needs of our very best Americans — our disabled soldiers and their families.
