Solar power, not drilling, the answer

If President Bush gets his way and offshore oil drilling is allowed in heretofore untapped regions, it will do nothing except make the foreign oil companies richer. His plan is to make more oil accessible to foreign-owned oil companies, which have stated their refineries are maxed out.

The Las Vegas Sun’s opinion that Nevada and other sunny states should become major producers of solar power makes far more sense.

The Arabs have stated that there isn’t a shortage of oil, so it looks like we are being held up again. As long as presidential administrations favor oil over alternative energies, there will be little hope that gasoline will come down in price.

In the meantime, the oil companies are coming up with new ways to make money, such as replacing 87 octane regular with 85 octane, so you will have to pay more for what used to be regular. We keep taking it in the pocket.

The bill that was passed to give billions of our tax dollars to the Yucca Mountain project also hurt our pocketbooks. Officials could use that money to build a recycling plant, as they did in France. Sooner or later there will be a train wreck that will spew radioactive waste in an urban area and thousands of people will be exposed.

When do we get some responsible government?
