Resource Rangers seek volunteers

Resource agency rangers are seeking volunteers to help clean up Lake Mead Oct. 4.

Rangers from the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service teamed up on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 27, to clean up areas of Lake Mead. About 500 pounds of trash were removed during the cleanup.

That effort will continue Oct. 4. Volunteers are asked to gather at 8:30 a.m. at Government Wash, off North Shore Road.

County Commission candidate to speak

The Boulder City Republican Women will host a luncheon and talk by Brian Scroggins, Republican candidate for Clark County Commissioner District A, at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 16 in the Railroad Pass Casino conference room.

District A covers Boulder City and is currently represented by Brice Woodbury.

Group to sponsor series of movies

Working Families Win of Nevada will sponsor a series of movies and discussions, "Documentaries, Democracy and Discussion," once a week through October.

The series will air at 7 p.m., at Boulder City Cinemas at the Hacienda Hotel.

The movies are "Sicko" Oct. 3, "In Debt We Trust" Oct. 9, "An Inconvenient Truth" Oct. 16 and "The Next Industrial Revolution" Oct. 23.

Tickets are $5, $1 of which is donated to Working Families Win, and the movies will be followed by an open-ended discussion.

Working Families Win is a nonpartisan community education project aimed at organizing working Americans to support alternatives to economic policies.

Museum to host talk on Techatticup Mine

The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum will host a talk by Shauna Scheppman from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 16 in the museum theater.

Scheppmann will cover the historic Techatticup Mine in Eldorado Canyon and the surrounding area. The talk will include tales of lore about the oldest and richest mine in Southern Nevada.

PEO group to host pancake breakfast

The Chapter AF, PEO Sisterhood of Boulder City will host an old-fashioned country pancake breakfast 8-10 a.m. Oct. 11, at Grace Community Church Social Hall, 1150 Wyoming St.

The cost will be $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger. The menu for the day will include buttermilk pancakes, sausage, applesauce, coffee, tea, milk and juice.

PEO group to hold holiday boutique

The Chapter K, PEO Sisterhood will host its annual Holiday Boutique 8:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.

The sale will feature seasonal crafts, baked goods and raffle prizes.

All proceeds from the boutique will benefit local Boulder City projects and scholarships.

Comments sought on Katherine Landing, Cottonwood Cove

The National Park Service is seeking public input on concept plans and the environmental impact statements for the Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing developed areas of Lake Mohave.

An open house will be held 4-7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., for members of the community to make suggestions or identify issues that should be considered.
