Post 31 News:

Legion Hall to be on Italian TV

The façade of Boulder City Post 31's Legion Hall will be on Italian TV.

When members emerged from Thursday morning's breakfast two weeks ago, there was a camera crew and a director out front shooting video of the mural above the door, so beautifully done by Connie Ferraro.

B.C. Chamber of Commerce executive Jill Lagan, showing them about Boulder City, said the crew from Italy was in Las Vegas making a documentary about the city. Hearing about Boulder City's ban on gambling, they decided to include some of our fair city to show life in Nevada without the hubbub of Las Vegas.

The Oct. 7 regular meeting of Post 31 will have an unusual feature, thanks to the lean appetites of those who attended the Sept. 11 potluck dinner. Commander Doug McHam said they have so many hot dogs and hamburgers left, they will be served before the meeting. The dogs and burgers will be available from 5:30 to 6:30. That will leave a half hour to digest them, and the meeting will start, as usual, at 7 p.m. on the dot.

At the meeting, one of the retired yellow ribbon signs posted on Veterans Memorial Drive will be given with a presentation to the honoree. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Aaron Dykstra will be on hand to receive the sign as a memento of his service.

A sign is posted on one of the light poles when a lad or lassie goes into service and the sign remains there until the person is relieved of duty. Eligibility is related to residence in Boulder City.

Call the post at 293-6374 and leave a message if you know of someone who should be honored and remembered with a sign. There is no charge for this. It's another community service of Post 31.

The Unit 31 Auxiliary will meet today, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. Since it is a new fundraiser for the auxiliary, we'd like to remind readers that the auxiliary now offers a travel service. Funds realized will go toward sending Boulder City High School girls to Girls State each year.

The Sept. 11 dinner was another success for the usual cadre of volunteers at the post, the few who do the work for the many. Members of the auxiliary had the hall appropriately decorated with the tables draped in red tablecloths and table centerpieces with small American flags in a bouquet of red, white and blue and a burst of stars.

Chaplain Ruth Taylor and McHam took care of the cooking. Brad Lane of Bradley's Barbecue Restaurant donated the barbecued beans, and members overloaded the serving tables with side dishes of all kinds. Dave Mulligan and Jack Belleau did the heavy work of setting up and taking down the tables.

Legion Hall will be closed to member activities from Oct. 11 through 19 for the annual Grace Community Church Country Store. The public sale takes place Oct. 18 and 19. The week before that is spent setting up and displaying the multitude of items.

Legion Hall is usually the place for hardware-type items, many of them out of production and not available elsewhere.

A mystery has developed at the post. A large, round, floor fan widely used during post events has disappeared. It seems certain it must have been taken by a member, since it is kept inside the locked post. If you borrowed it, please return it.

Remember the meeting at 7 Tuesday night. See you for a dog or a burger beforehand.
