Secretary of State concedes mistakes on delinquent list

CARSON CITY – The secretary of state’s office says it mistakenly included the names of two Clark County candidates on the list of those who did not file a campaign contribution and expense reports.

The office has sent letters of apology to Don Woolbright, a candidate for Assembly District 5, and Mathew Harter, a candidate for Family Court judge.

Kristi Geiser, in charge of campaign information in the secretary of state’s office, said Clark County reported that Woolbright and Harter did not submit any documents. But the two apparently sent their reports to the secretary of state in Carson City.

In addition, Terrance Marren was listed as failing to file his report in his campaign for Family Court judge in Clark County. But Marren said he dropped out of the race and was advised by the Administrative Office of the Courts he did not have to submit the information.

A fine of $4,575 has been recommended for Marren by the secretary of state’s office.

The secretary of state’s office Wednesday released the names of 30 candidates from Clark and Elko counties and those who file with the state office, who did not file or were late in submitting their campaign reports.

The campaign reports were due by Aug. 5 detailing where these candidates got their campaign finances and how it was spent. The next reports are scheduled to be submitted Oct. 28 and then the final ones on Jan. 15, 2009.

The maximum fine for those who fail to file the reports is $5,000.
