The high school tennis postseason starts Oct. 4, and while Boulder City High won't be represented in the team portion, coach Eric Speaker expected to have a couple players in the singles and doubles tournaments.

The brackets were announced after the Boulder City News went to press.

The boys team finished the season with a pair of losses — 18-0 to Foothill on Sept. 29 and 10-9 to Silverado on Sept. 25. Silverado won on a tie-breaker.

The girls season ended without a win, following the Eagles' 13-5 loss to Foothill on Sept. 29. The Eagles also lost 15-3 to Silverado on Sept. 25.

"We've shown improvement over the short season and now it's up to them to show their level of dedication in the off-season," Speaker said.

Boys soccer streak ends, girls streak continues

Despite losing to 3A Southern League foe Faith Lutheran 6-0 on Sept. 29, the Boulder City High boys soccer team still believes it can be a playoff contender. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak.

"We came out a little overconfident. We hadn't played all weekend and came out flat," Boulder City coach Dave Nilsen said. "I still think we'll make the playoffs and be that No. 2 or No. 3 team."

Faith Lutheran scored two goals within the first 15 minutes of the game to take an early lead. The Crusaders added two more and led 4-0 at the break.

"They came out and scored real quick and we were pretty much done," Nilsen said.

Faith Lutheran added two goals in the second half.

Boulder City picked up its fifth consecutive win after Lake Mead Christian Academy forfeited its Sept. 25 game against the Eagles.

Boulder City's girls won its third consecutive match with a 2-0 home win against Pahrump Valley on Sept. 29.

Sophomore Carly Weisnborn scored in the first half to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, which they held to halftime. Weisenborn then got an assist when junior Melissa Stewart scored for Boulder City in the second half.

Junior Jessie Forrester recorded her third consecutive shutout and fourth this season.

The win improved the Eagles to 3-0 in league play (5-1-1 overall).

Runners take second at Liberty meet

Boulder City High's boys cross country team took second place in a three-team meet at Liberty on Sept. 24.

Silverado scored 37 points, edging out Boulder City, which scored 38 points in the 3.1 mile race. Liberty was third with 51 points.

"We have some interesting possibilities if everyone gets a few seconds faster," Boulder City coach Joe Ringen said.

The Eagles had three runners finish in the top 10.

Senior Matt Lundgren took second to lead Boulder City in 16 minutes, 38 seconds. Senior Taylor Clifford was third in 17:22, while Michael Kelso was sixth in 18:11. Dan Edmonson took 11th at 18:39.

"Our top four guys are getting the pack mentality. We hope to drop the time between one and four to less than a minute by the end of October," Ringen said.

The girls team had four runners in the meet and didn't record a team score.

Senior Sara Richner was second in 21:07, freshman Lue Tobler was 18th in 27:54 and Cassidy Young was 23rd in 38:49. Also, Katelyn Boudreaux was 24th in 39:03.

The Eagles' next race is the Lake Mead Invitational on Oct. 4.
