In the weeks leading up to the Brookings Institution forum at UNLV, the agendas included a grand finale entitled “Getting It Done: A Dialogue Between Mega Las Vegas Leaders and Nevada Senators.” Nevada’s two U.S. senators were listed as participants.
But Sen. John Ensign never showed. The reason announced at the event was a scheduling conflict.
A spokesman for Sen. Harry Reid, Jon Summers, said Reid’s office received an e-mail Friday saying Ensign would not attend. The e-mail provided no explanation.
Ensign’s Washington office said Ensign was in Nevada, but spokesman Tory Mazzola declined to elaborate on the senator’s schedule.
Mazzola said by e-mail that Ensign planned to remain in Nevada today “meeting with constituents and talking with a variety of Nevada radio and television stations.”
Ensign’s spokeswoman in Las Vegas, Sari Mann, did not return repeated messages left for her by the Las Vegas Sun.
