Holiday could bring Vegas’ coolest weather in weeks

If all goes as planned, this Labor Day could be the coolest day in Las Vegas since June.

The National Weather Service said the high is expected to reach 92 degrees this afternoon. The last time the mercury only reached that level was June 12, when the high also was 92.

Forecasters said a low pressure system and cold front are moving through the area this morning, bringing breezy conditions with them. A wind advisory was posted Sunday for parts of western Clark County, although no weather advisories are in effect today for the Las Vegas area.

Other parts of the state are getting a taste of winter.

Much of northeast Nevada is under a freeze watch today with lows plummeting to the upper 20s near the Idaho border -- and the first chance of snow flurries this season. Highs today will be close to 60 degrees along the Interstate 80 corridor.

The cold front's effects on Southern Nevada will be much less dramatic.

After cooler conditions today in Las Vegas, temperatures will warm to the middle 90s and 100s for the rest of the week. The high should top out near 94 on Tuesday before surging into the triple digits again for Thursday and Friday.

The average high on today's date at McCarran International Airport is 99 degrees.

No rain is in the forecast through the weekend. McCarran recorded 0.07 inches of rain last month -- short of the August average of 0.45 inches.
