Metro Police arrested 28 people this past weekend in connection with DUI during two separate initiatives targeting impaired drivers.

One effort was a checkpoint held in the area of Flamingo Road and Dunneville Avenue from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday. During that time, 5,449 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

Police said 33 people were given field sobriety tests, 15 were arrested for DUI, one was arrested on a warrant and one was given a traffic citation.

The second initiative was a DUI saturation enforcement Friday and Saturday along the Las Vegas Strip, and the Boulder Highway corridor Sunday and early Monday.

The saturation enforcement led to 13 DUI arrests, 17 seat belt violations, four child restraint violations and 14 speeding citations. A total of 161 people were arrested or issued a citation.
