Letter to the Editor:

Clinton supporters should feel insulted

John McCain and his Republican handlers have insulted anyone who supported Hillary Clinton in the presidential primaries. He has chosen a woman who was mayor of a town of 6,500 and governor for only half a term. According to reports, he had met her only once before Friday.

The reasons for this choice are obvious because it was definitely not her experience that got her the nod. First, the sheer shock value helped derail the positive buzz accumulating from Barack Obama’s inspirational acceptance speech. And Republicans hope that voters who saw their dreams dashed with Clinton’s failure to secure the Democratic nomination will immediately get on board the Bush third-term express just because their candidate is a woman.

Sadly, tens of thousands will do just that. But for the vast majority of voters who supported Clinton’s ideals and those of the progressive Democratic platform, this stunt by McCain and the Republicans reeks of denigration. How sad that McCain’s handlers think so little not only of voters, but also of the office of vice president, to play a prank such as this.
