Boulder City Council in brief

Sale of industrial parcel gets approval

The City Council on Aug. 26 approved a sale of a 0.57-acre lot on Industrial Road for $428,400.

John Hent sought to relocate his business Craftsman Industries Inc. from Henderson to Boulder City's industrial area.

Voters in 2006 passed a measure permitting the city to put up nine business lots for sale on Industrial Road east of Yucca Street.

In November, an appraisal valued the land at $17 to $20 per square feet.

Hent bought the lot for $17 per square foot, the minimum acceptable bid by state law.

Craftsman Industries is a small machine and wholesaling facility of tooling parts and accessories.

Council adopts finance suggestions

The City Council formally adopted two of the Finance Advisory Committee's recommendations. A third was removed from the agenda, because staff members were not prepared to discuss it.

The suggestions from the four-member volunteer group, which met from January to June, had already been incorporated into the city's budget earlier this year.

The City Council approved a policy for reimbursing its utility fund from its general fund. Six years ago, $8.7 million was transferred between accounts, and the City Council earlier this year declared it, retroactively, a loan.

The council also instituted a policy that each city department will reimburse the Utility Fund for its share of utilities, at a wholesale cost.

Departments had not been individually charged for their electricity and water before.

Boulder City praised at solar conference

Councilman Travis Chandler attended the Clean Power Summit at UNLV Aug. 20 at the invitation of Sen. Harry Reid. He said he was very proud that locally and nationally, Boulder City is recognized as a leader in developing renewable energy.

"Our small town is very well known for its activities in solar energy development, and it's something I'm very proud of and something we should continue to pursue," he said. "It's very rewarding to see us get recognition statewide and nationally."
