School board meetings go live

The Clark County School District Board of Trustees has begun webcasting its regular meetings live online.

Those interested in viewing the meetings live can log onto www.ccsd.net at any time during the night of a regular board meeting. A link to the live webcasting will be available on the home page.

Anyone unable to log on during the meeting will be a able to view the meetings a few days following the meeting at www.ccsd.net/trustees.

The board meets at 4 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month in the boardroom of the Education Center, 2832 E. Flamingo Road. The public is welcome to attend.

Childhood education center opens

Congregation Ner Tamid will dedicate the Gary and Lynn Kantor Early Childhood Education Center at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 14 in the synagogue, 55 N. Valle Verde Drive.

The center offers full- and half-day preschool programs, as well as before- and after-school care, for children ages 2 through 5.

Gala to raise money for special academy

A gala fundraiser will take place Oct. 25 to benefit the Achievement Academy, a proposed school to serve children with Asperger's syndrome and other disorders.

The academy, which plans to open in September 2009, will be a private, nonprofit school for students in grades first through eighth with Asperger's, high-functioning autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and related learning disabilities. The school is currently looking for a site in the Las Vegas area.

The Possible Dream Gala fundraiser will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Rio Hotel Pavilion. Tickets are $200 and include dinner, entertainment and a silent auction.

Local students make dean's list

Southern Utah University has named Logan Butt, Ara Kreimeyer, Jillian Pagan and Tysson Poots of Henderson and Brianne Perkins, Reasha Smith and Steven Smith of Boulder City to the dean's list for Spring 2008 semester.

To make the dean's list, students must be taking at least 15 credits and earn a grade point average of at least 3.6. The students on the dean's list represent the top 13 percent of the student body at Southern Utah University.

Henderson resident graduates college

Jaqueline Aitken of Henderson graduated from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., receiving a certificate of advanced study.

Locals graduate from Kaplan

Two local residents were honored at Kaplan University's commencement ceremony held at the Chicago Symphony Theater.

Jennifer Pease was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in business and Michael Li was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in management.

Exchange students come to Clark County

125 foreign exchange students are joining Clark County high schoolers for the 2008-2009 school year. The students come from 30 different countries including, Brazil, China, Kuwait, Serbia, South Korea and Ethiopia.

All foreign exchange students live with volunteer host families and are sponsored by foreign exchange programs that are approved by the U.S. State Department.
