Overheard: An old Carson City hand

An old Carson City hand talking to a senior member of Gov. Jim Gibbons’ staff about 10 a.m. Friday outside the rear entrance to the Capitol:

“Tell me you knew who this Palin, Paulin — however you say it — was before today,” the old hand said.

“Hey, Alaska has like a $13 billion budget surplus,” came the reply. “We should see if they can loan us a billion and a half interest-free, just for a little while.”
