From the Press Box:

Summer was one to remember

Summer technically still has a couple of weeks left, but now that Labor Day is past and the temperatures are dropping, everyone is focused on the fall sports season.

Let's take a look back at how the summer months treated Boulder City athletes before we look ahead.

Four swimmers with Boulder City ties competed in the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., in late June, while a Boulder City High graduate traveled to Beijing as a trainer with the U.S. men's gymnastics team.

Austin Lelles, 13, set an unofficial world record for being the youngest person to complete a full distance triathlon (2.5 mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, 26.2 mile run).

Talk about some memorable performances. Hopefully the fall we produce similar memories.

There's the high school athletics programs — ranging from football to golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball and cross country — which just got started.

Also, Interbike's Outdoor Demo is coming back to Bootleg Canyon Sept. 22 and 23. While the event is geared more towards retailers and isn't necessarily open to the public it still brings in several thousand visitors and is a pretty cool site to see Red Mountain filled with bicycles and bicyclists.

Boulder Creek Golf Course is hosting the Clark County Amateur on Nov. 15 and 16. The tournament is the Southern Nevada Golf Association's fourth 'Major' of the year, and can play a large role in determining the player of the year standings, since its also the final tournament of the year.

The tournament will feature the top amateur golfers in Southern Nevada and some from Arizona, California and Utah as well.

The Pumpkinman Triathlon returns to Boulder City and Lake Mead, Oct. 18 for its fifth annual race, which is the largest in the state.

While some of these events are not on the national scale, like being in the Olympic Trials, there are still a lot of things to look forward to this fall.
