Park Service offers guided hikes

The National Park Service will offer limited guided hikes in September in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

The Moonlight Stroll, an easy 1 1/2-mile hike will take place 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13. The Twilight Hike, a moderate 2- to 4-mile hike, starts at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14.

DAR chapter marks Constitution Week

The Silver State chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has placed a display in the Boulder City Library to celebrate Constitution Week, Sept. 17 to 23.

To kick off the celebration on Sept. 17, bells will ring at 1 p.m. St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Martha P. King and Andrew Mitchell elementary schools, Elton Garret Middle School and Boulder City High School.

'Around Boulder City' captures history

"Around Boulder City," a book by Boulder City resident Cheryl Ferrence, will be available for purchase Sept. 15 at area bookstores, independent and online retailers, and the Boulder Dam Hotel and Museum.

"Around Boulder City" features more than 200 images documenting the growth and development of Boulder City.

Cheryl Ferrence has lived in Boulder City for 34 years. She has served as the executive director of the Chamber of Commerce and with the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association as president and director. She has also managed the Boulder City News office and a motel and worked in real estate.

All profits from the book will be donated to the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association.

Lions Club golf event benefits its programs

The Boulder City Lions Club will host a golf tournament fundraiser at 7 a.m. on Sept. 27 at the Boulder City Municipal Golf Course.

The cost will be $100 per entrant and includes greens fees, a golf cart and lunch. Donations or sponsorships will be accepted.

Nevada Republican chairwoman to speak

The Boulder City Republican Women will host a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 at the Railroad Pass Hotel conference room.

The guest speaker will be Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden. The focus of the luncheon will be a report on the activities of the Republican National Convention.

Lowden has previously served as a Nevada state senator and is a former news reporter and anchorwoman for KLAS-TV Channel 8.

Clipped Wings hosts meeting and dinner

The Las Vegas chapter of Clipped Wings will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Anthem Community Center. All retired and active United Airlines flight attendants are invited to attend.

Calvary Chapel to host block party

Calvary Chapel will host a community block party from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Veterans Memorial Park.

The party is free and will include games, water slides, bean bag tosses, arts, crafts, raffles, food and music. Bring blankets and chairs to watch the movie "Time Traveler" at 7 p.m.
