Green Valley Class of '98 plans reunion

Green Valley High School class of 1998 will celebrate its 10-year reunion Oct. 10-11 with a tailgate party at Green Valley High School on Oct. 10 and a dinner-dance at the Vitruvian Mansion Oct. 11. Tickets are on sale through Sept. 20

The reunion committee is also seeking contributions to help with cover the costs of putting on the reunion. Contributors will be recognized on the class Web site and the evening of the reunion.

Club offers classes on showing dogs

The Black Mountain Kennel Club is offering classes for handling dogs in shows.

Classes will take place 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Sept. 30 at Pecos Legacy Park, 150 Pecos Road, baseball field No. 1.

Cost is $15 for all classes or $3 per class for those who don't wish to attend each week.

Community blood drive scheduled

United Blood Services will hold a community blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at The Vitamin Shoppe, 1205 Sunset Road.

Church to hold Day of Prayer, Sept. 11

Unity in Green Valley Church will host a community prayer night at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Henderson International School, 2150 Windmill Parkway.

The theme of the interndenominational service will be "Celebrating Oneness, Healing the World."

Assemblyman to address GOP women

Assemblyman Lynn Stewart, R-Henderson, will address the Southern Hills Republican Women Sept. 23 at Revere Golf Club, Buckman's Grille, 2600 Hampton Road.

A social will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon at 11:30 a.m.

The cost is $20 and reservations must be made by Sept. 18.

MacDonald Ranch plans fashion show

The "Passport to Fashions" fashion show will take place at 12 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Zion Ballroom at Sun City MacDonald Ranch community center.

Ms. Senior Nevada contestants will model fashions from Coldwater Creek and will focus on clothing that is easy to pack and comfortable to travel in.

A salad bar luncheon will be provided by The Willows of Henderson restaurant.

Reading program logs thousands of hours

Nearly 3,000 children, teens and adults participated in Henderson public libraries' summer reading program, "Catch the Reading Bug."

The annual program offered incentives to children reading independently and being read to by adults. Children who read more than 600 minutes — 10 hours — were awarded a pass to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Other prizes included swim passes to Henderson Parks and Recreation pools and free books.

Nearly 1 million minutes of reading were logged by all of the participants.

Daughters group to hold workshop

The Old Spanish Trail Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a prospective member workshop at 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.

The workshop will provide information, resources and hands-on assistance for those wanting to research ancestors who served in the American Revolution.

Philharmonic to celebrate Israel

The Las Vegas Philharmonic will celebrate Israel's 60th anniversary with a concert and grand gala event on Oct. 12.

The Philharmonic will honor this milestone with a musical night filled with traditional Israeli and Jewish folk, patriotic, liturgical and Klesmer music. The concert will also feature a performance by the Las Vegas Hebrew Academy choir and world renowned mezzo-soprano Eugenie Grunewald.

The concert will take place at the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at the University of Las Vegas. To purchase tickets call 895-2787.

Trunk or Treat

Community Lutheran Church will host a night of trunk or treating at 6 p.m. 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., Oct. 30.

Children, teens and adults are invited to wear non-violent costumes and enjoy food, games, crafts, a parade of costumes, prizes and entertainment. Participants are welcome to decorate vehicles and bring goodies to share with the children from. Attendees are also welcome to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the community food drive.

Annual Chanukah bazaar plans made

Congregation Ner Tamid's Sisterhood is now accepting reservations for its Annual Chanukah Bazaar.

The bazaar will be held Dec. 7. Booth rates are $60 for CNT Temple members and $75 for non temple members.

The bazaar will also feature hoe cooked food, raffles, door prices, music and games. To reserve a booth contact Arlene Kagan at 307-8982.
