Garage sale benefits high school band

The third annual Coronado High School band garage sale and craft fair will take place from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13 in the Coronado High School parking lot.

Spaces are available starting at $15 for those wishing to sell their own items, or good quality items may be donated for the band to sell.

Library offers free homework help

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is offering free online homework help. The "Homework Help" pages are designed to assist students in elementary, middle and high school with daily homework assignments.

The pages offer information by grade level and subject and offer links to Web sites to help with writing reports or researching projects.

"Homework Help" is free, but a library card is needed to access the pages.

Applications for library cards are available at the Green Valley Library or any other Las Vegas Clark County library branch or online at www.lvccld.org.

Locals graduate from Kaplan University

Two local residents were honored at Kaplan University's commencement ceremony.

Jennifer Pease was awarded a bachelor of science degree in business and Michael Li was awarded a bachelor of science degree in management.

Exchange students come to Clark County

About 125 foreign exchange students are joining Clark County high schoolers for the 2008-2009 school year. The students come from 30 countries.

All exchange students live with volunteer host families and are sponsored by foreign exchange programs that are approved by the U.S. State Department.

Local students named to dean's list

Southern Utah University has named Logan Butt, Ara Kreimeyer, Jillian Pagan and Tysson Poots of Henderson and Brianne Perkins, Reasha Smith and Steven Smith of Boulder City to the dean's list for the spring 2008 semester.

To make the dean's list, students must be taking at least 15 credits and earn a grade point average of at least 3.6. The students on the dean's list represent the top 13 percent of the student body at Southern Utah University.

Green Valley grad named scholar

Green Valley High School graduate Hesham Elnagar has been selected as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar for 2009-2010. The scholarship, worth about $24,000, is awarded to students who wish to study abroad for a school year.

Elnagar is currently a student at Northern Arizona University and has not yet decided where he wants to spend his year abroad.

The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program was founded in 1947 and is the world's largest privately funded international scholarship program. Elnagar is sponsored by the Green Valley Club in Rotary's District 5300.
