Letter to the Editor:

Alaska governor fuels many myths

I would like to know when John McCain is going to clear up some of the statements his pick for vice president, Sarah Palin, made in her convention speech last week and has been repeating on the campaign trail.

First is the famous “Bridge to Nowhere.” She stated she turned down bridge funding from the government. However, the truth is that while she was running for governor, she campaigned for the bridge.

It wasn’t until she was elected that it became an unpopular issue and she decided she was against it. However, she never mentioned she didn’t give the federal government back the millions of dollars allocated for the bridge; she used the money for other projects in Alaska.

That jet she spoke of was not sold on eBay; it was sold at a huge loss to an Alaskan businessman.

Then there is the issue of her husband, Todd, having been a member of the Alaskan Independence Party for many years. Its slogan is “Alaska First-Alaska Always,” and one of its main planks is that Alaska might secede from the United States.

I wonder how the press would have reacted if Michelle Obama had been a member of an organization that pushed for her state’s seceding from the union. That doesn’t sound very patriotic to me. How about you?
