Brief rain showers and isolated thunderstorms reach valley

Updated Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 | 6:02 p.m.

A persistent thunderstorm rolled into the southeastern Las Vegas Vegas Valley shortly after 5:30 p.m., and was heading for McCarran International Airport and then the Las Vegas Strip, the National Weather Service said.

The storm developed over northwestern Arizona and pushed into the Green Valley area of the valley as well as southeastern Las Vegas, the weather service said.

The isolated thunderstorm will travel north to northwest before the sun sets.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms remain across Southern Nevada Wednesday, the weather service said.

As the seasonal southwestern monsoon begins to fade south toward Mexico, the possibility remains to see some dry lightning storms or isolated showers like the one this afternoon, the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the mid 90s until the end of the week, but by the start of next week, low 90s will become the norm.

Breezy to windy conditions are expected with any storm and again over this weekend, the weather service said.
